A group which has raised over £90,000 for a hospital’s breast clinic is to screen a fundraising chick flick in memory of its founder.
The Think Pink Fundraising Group will show the 1978 musical Grease at Energus, Lillyhall, Workington on Saturday, October 8.
Doors open for the event at 6.30pm and tickets are £20 per person, which includes a glass of pink fizz or non-alcoholic equivalent, nibbles and sweet treats.
There will be games and raffles throughout the evening and prizes for the best dressed.
The Think Pink Fundraising group was founded by Karen Ritson, who lost her own battle with breast cancer in 2015.
Karen’s legacy lives on through the work the group continues to do. They have raised over £90,000 for the breast care unit at Whitehaven’s West Cumberland Hospital, which has allowed it to buy new equipment.
Organiser Margaret Campbell said: “As you can imagine this event is something very close to all the Think Pink fundraising group members’ hearts and a lot of our returning guests.
“Our founding member Karen wanted to give something back directly to the West Cumberland Hospital breast cancer unit as she felt she wouldn’t have got through her treatment without them.
“Karen asked a group of friends to do a fundraiser, and so we held our first chick flick night at Rosehill Theatre watching Dirty Dancing and it sold out! We now do an event every October to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“It’s going to be a great girl’s night out and a chance to have a lot of fun and raise money for a worthwhile local cause. The money raised will go directly to the breast care unit at West Cumberland Hospital and help women living in the local area.”
