Heavy rain is falling across Cumbria and drivers have been urged to take care on the roads.
There are no weather warnings in force from the Met Office but localised flooding is occurring across the county.
A flood alert – meaning flooding is possible – remains in place for Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater.
It says: “River and lake levels will rise again today as a response to further rainfall. The forecast is for rain this morning, heavy at times, which will lessen in intensity and frequency as the morning progresses. River and lake levels will rise for a time as a result of the rain before peaking this afternoon. Derwentwater will remain high affecting low lying areas bordering the shores of Derwentwater.
“Areas most at risk are the Upper Derwent from Seathwaite to Derwentwater.”
People are urged to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and asked not to attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
A flood warning remains in place for Keswick Campsite.
Keswick Flood Action Group said there were no real issues with the River Greta this morning as there was capacity in Thirlmere.
Cockermouth’s rivers appear to be bearing up well, according to the latest view from Farson Digital WaterCams.
Reports are coming in that the A595 leading into Whitehaven, by the Bus Station, was flooded earlier this morning, but that has now cleared.
Kev Wilson caught the really heavy rain this morning. Kev, who works at Hensingham Spar, said: “It was truly horrendous, I’ve never seen the rain so heavy. I can’t imagine we’ve seen the last of it.”
In a tweet, Cumbria police said: “If you’re just waking up it’s not the best on the roads … plenty of water about …. Good for ducks – not for driving … Take care moving around today.”
Windermere Ferry is not operating both ways between Bowness and Far Sawrey due to strong winds.
