Wigton suffered a 45-12 defeat at Millom in the only Counties 1 Cumbria game played at the weekend.
It was their first away game of the season and they were second-best, well beaten by a physical Millom side.
The Greens faced a strong breeze and created two early chances which weren’t taken.
It was Millom who opened the scoring after 10 minutes when the home centre broke the Wigton defence and went in under the posts for a converted try.
The home side soon doubled their lead before Wigton hit back with a try from Charlie Bell.
Wigton were generally struggling to secure any possession but on a break-out they thought they had scored a try only for the referee to disagree.
Millom responded by kicking two penalties to lead 20-5 at half-time.
With the breeze at their backs Wigton thought they were still in with a shout but the second-half followed a similar pattern.
Wigton did not secure or retain any decent possession and Millom were able to exploit some poor defending to run in four more tries.
Right at the end Wigton scored a second try through John Swainson which was converted by Stuart Carruthers.
It was a disappointing day for the Greens who will now prepare for a derby clash with Silloth on Saturday.
