A woman who kicked a Carlisle nightclub bouncer in the groin while drunk has been fined.
Iana Brotherton, 38, had been a woman of previous good character before a city night out on September 24.
Carlisle magistrates heard security guard Hannah Douglas was called downstairs at the Havana bar to assist, at around 3.35am, with a female customer who was described as being intoxicated, refusing to leave the premises and aggressive.
Brotherton was difficult to understand and moved towards the bouncer, requesting the police be called.
“I pushed her back as she kept coming towards me,” Ms Douglas had stated. “She tried to slap me but missed. The next thing I know, the woman with blonde hair (Brotherton) kicked me in the groin.”
Brotherton was taken to the floor, later complaining of a foot injury. Meanwhile there been some soreness caused to Ms Douglas but no lasting injury.
In a police interview, Brotherton, of River Street, Carlisle, recalled being very drunk and not really able to remember anything.
She admitted a common assault charge in court and wept as the facts were outlined by the prosecution.
Kete Hunter, defending, said Brotherton — an engineer by trade and latterly a self-employed nail technician — was extremely upset and mortified to find herself in front of magistrates.
A Russian national, she had been discussing current affairs — including war in Ukraine — before going out on September 24. Two cousins of Brotherton had recently been mobilised and sent to war. She has not heard from them, was concerned for their safety and found that traumatic.
Following the current affairs discussion, Brotherton had made the decision to go out into Carlisle, said Miss Hunter, for a change of scenery, to blow off some steam, effectively.
“She has never been in trouble before in her life,” said the lawyer. “She can’t believe what happened on that night. It is so out of character for her.”
Magistrates fined Brotherton £80 for the offence.
