People have invited to find out more about a proposed multi-million-pound outdoor education centre for Walney.
Cumbria County Council is hosting two drop-in sessions to allow people to ask questions about the plan for a site at Earnse Bay.
Councillor Anne Burns, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “The outdoor activity centre and the educational facility will be an asset to the area and will be advantageous for the local community, being a real hub to get together and connect with neighbours and other residents.
“The centre will aim to provide people of all ages with opportunities, access to the outdoors and to education, community growing schemes and reflection, too.”
In September, the county council submitted an environmental impact assessment ahead of a full planning application for the site being put in.
The planning application is to feature a new outdoor centre and landscaped area as well as another new centre, funded by Natural England, on the same site.
The project is to be backed by £4.3m from the Brilliant Barrow group, which secured £25m from the Government’s Towns Fund earlier this year.
Officers from the council’s community and capital programmes teams are to host two drop-in sessions to answer questions about the scheme, provide further details and allow the public to see plans and visualisations.
These will be held on Thursday, October 20 at:
- Walney links golf course between 10am and 1pm
- The Forum in Barrow between 2pm and 4pm
Cllr David Southward, cabinet member for economic development and property, said: “I am pleased to see that the early stages of this important project are under way.
“I would encourage members of the local community to attend one of the drop-in sessions so that we can listen to and understand their views and provide more information and details about the project.
“A huge amount of hard work has gone into getting the scheme to this point and I, along with so many other people, look forward to what’s to come in the future.”
