Pigeon fanciers turn attention to winter shows

With the racing season over pigeon fanciers are now turning their attention to the winter shows.

In the west of the county Workington Victoria and Flimby HS appear again to be the only clubs putting on shows.

Victoria are holding five shows, starting on Friday, November 18 for old cocks.

There will be a £20 first prize for each show and also £20 for the most points in the series.

Entry is 50p a bird and £1 nom (unlimited entries). Judging will start at 7-30pm.

The rest of the series made-up of: Old hens, November 25; Young cocks, December 2; Young hens, December 9 and Ticket winners and fancy coloureds, December 16.

The club will also be holding a show race on December 30, details to follow later.

Flimby HS start their series on Wednesday, November 9 in the Sports and Social Club with a class of old cocks, judging at 7-30pm.

Entry is 50p a bird with £1 nom optional but unlimited.

The rest of the series goes as follows:

November 16, Old hens; November 23, Young cocks; November 30, young hens.

Flimby HS is also staging two Show races on December 7 (any age cock) for the final inland race and on December 14 (any age hen) for the first channel race or equivalent.

Entries for the show in both is 50p with a £1 nom optional and for the race it is £3 for the inland and £5 for the channel.

Race entries don’t have to be in the show but ring numbers have to be handed in on the night.

Same number to be entered in show as wish to enter the race.
