Maryport’s town hall has been officially opened after a £200,000 revamp.
It was opened by Allerdale council leader Mike Johnson and townsfolk, plus invited guests, were able to see the work undertaken at the landmark building.
People can now book an appointment to see Allerdale council’s customer services officers about housing benefit or council tax queries. Cumbria police will also have a presence in the building and officers say it will embed them in the community. Maryport Town Council is also based there.
The £200,000 refurbishment has transformed the building, and helped to preserve it for the future. Disabled access has been improved and original features restored thanks to Maryport’s High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) initiative, funded by Historic England, Allerdale Borough Council and Sellafield Ltd.
Councillor Johnson said: “The town hall is not only a Maryport landmark – it’s a vital resource and an important part of our regeneration work in this town.”
