A man accused of using bogus barcodes to scan items at a Carlisle store is due to stand trial next year.
Mark McCracken, 55, faced three charges when he appeared in front of a judge at the city’s crown court today.
All three charges allege that McCracken committed fraud by making false representations on three separate dates at Matalan, Station Business Retail Park, off Water Street.
He is alleged to have done so — on December 2, 3 and 6 2020 — by using fake barcodes to scan items, court papers state.
During a short hearing this morning, McCracken pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
His case was listed for a trial which is due to take place in front of a crown court jury. It is estimated to last around two days, and is set to start in the week of April 17 next year.
In the meantime, McCracken, of Ullswater Road, Carlisle, was granted bail by Judge Richard Archer.
