Essential information for visitors to Carlisle’s 2022 Christmas Market

Where is Carlisle’s Christmas Market? 

Carlisle’s city centre is set to be transformed into a winter wonderland and the 17th century Old Town Hall will be its scenic backdrop from this Friday, December 2. 

The market will be the first major Christmas event staged in the city since 2019 and the aim is to attract visitors from across the north and the wider UK.

The historic city centre is the perfect location for the festive, colourful Christmas village.

There will be 40 Alpine-style chalets, featuring local and visiting traders, selling festive favourites and delicious treats.

It truly will be a festive extravaganza to get you in the Christmas spirit.

When will Carlisle’s Christmas Market be open? 

  • Friday December 2 and Saturday December 3: 10am-8pm
  • Sunday December 4: 10am-6pm
  • Monday December 5 to Wednesday December 7: 10am-6pm
  • Thursday December 8: 10am-8pm (late night shopping)
  • Friday December 9 and Saturday December 10: 10am-8pm
  • Sunday December 11: 10am-6pm

Who can I expect to see at Carlisle’s Christmas Market?

Can I park for free for Carlisle’s Christmas Market?

The free parking scheme has been extended to include festive late night Thursdays.

Free parking is currently offered every weekend and on bank holidays. Visitors to the city will also benefit from free parking after 3pm on the following Thursday December 1, 8, 15 and 22

The free parking scheme will be available in the following Carlisle City Council car parks: Bitts Park, Caldew Riverside; Castle; Civic Centre; Lowther Street; The Sands; Swifts Bank, Viaduct and West Walls.
