Tributes have poured in for Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie, who has died aged 79.
The star, who wrote some of the band’s biggest hits including Little Lies and Songbird, had a soft spot for Cumbria – as she was born here.
She told the Guardian in an interview in 2017: “I was born in Greenodd and we lived there for three or four years before moving to Birmingham, where my father was a music teacher.
“Cumbria is a beautiful part of the world and we had a good time, but my distinct memory is of nearly drowning. I slipped in the mud and fell in the river, and they had to get me out using a fishing net.”
She died peacefully surrounded by her family, a statement said.
Christine retired from Fleetwood Mac in 1998, saying a fear of flying meant she had to leave, but rejoined in 2014.
