Former Carlisle United and Barrow full-back Nick Anderton has given an update on his battle with cancer.
Anderton, 26, is undergoing chemotherapy as he battles a rare form of bone cancer.
He posted an update on social media yesterday complete with a picture of himself giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed.
He is taking each day as it comes after finding out his cancer is more aggressive than first thought.
Now playing for Bristol Rovers he had an operation in October which showed further treatment would be needed, with the chemotherapy set to last several months.
He had been initially diagnosed last July, when a routine medical check revealed a tumour in his leg.
On his social media update he said: “Thank you for the messages of support from every single person, the strength they’ve given my family can’t be described.
“It’s been one hell of a year to say the least. Staying positive and taking each day as it comes. Got to try and keep the mind healthy.”
Anderton had started with his hometown club of Preston he played 73 games for Barrow and a further 49 for Carlisle. He also played for Blackpool and Accrington Stanley before joining Bristol Rovers last season.
