Workington Reds have had a virus in the camp during their fortnight without a game in the NPL West.
But manager Danny Grainger is keeping fingers firmly crossed they are through the worst of it ahead of the Boxing Day game with Kidsgrove Athletic.
“It’s hard not playing for two weeks and we have had various players missing out on training with a bug which seems to be going about.
“Although players have been missing we’ve had some good sessions with the players working hard on fitness while we’ve had chance to do some tactical stuff.
“It’s an important part of the season and we have two games in a row against teams who are both just six points below us in the table.
“We have the chance to put some daylight between ourselves and the pair of them but we are expecting two tough games,” said Grainger.
Kidsgrove are sixth ahead of their Boxing Day visit to Borough Park while Reds visit Clitheroe on Monday, January 2 – and they are fifth on the same number of points and games as Kidsgrove.
Although rain is forecast before Monday and the visit of Kidsgrove, Borough Park looks fine with no real concerns unless there are torrential downpours.
The last scheduled game for the pitch against Bootle was called off because of a frozen surface.
