A West Cumbrian brass band is offering people the chance to blow away the Christmas cobwebs next month.
Egremont Town Band and Brass Band England has organised the free A Taste of Brass event on Saturday January 28 so people can try playing a brass instrument and be part of the growing number of people taking up euphoniums, cornets, horns and more.
All ages and abilities are welcome – from those who have never picked up an instrument before to those who previously played but stopped.
It will be held between 10am and noon at the town’s St Mary & St Michael’s Church Hall on South Street and the band’s musicians will be on hand to pass on their years of collective experience and skills by performing, teaching and inspiring.
Stuart Humphries, chairman of Egremont Town Band, said: “Whether you’re new to music and would like to pick up an instrument for the first time, or have played in the past and want to re-ignite your interest and skills, our Taste of Brass event is for you.
“Our town band has been a part of the community in Egremont and across West Cumbria for 118 years, and we are always keen to pass on our enthusiasm and music to others. We are grateful to Brass Band England for giving us this exciting opportunity to pass on our passion for brass so that everyone can pick up an instrument and have a go at playing.”
The event is free. Instruments and refreshments will be provided, and the morning will conclude with a 20-minute concert. Places are limited so anyone interested is encouraged to register and secure theirs in advance at www.tasteofbrass.co.uk.
