Whitehaven’s Rack Shack produced their best result of the season so far in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League.
They travelled through to Workington to earn a 3-2 victory against the Veterans Club.
A quite superb victory for the Division Two outfit started in thrilling fashion as Nev Stitt displayed supreme resilience to win on the black to put the Rack Shack 1-0 up.
Doubling their lead with a fine finish to frame two Stephen Harrison ensured the Whitehaven side were in the best position possible with the match score now at 2-0.
With the Vets Club now on the back foot Kevin Basnett dragged his team back into the match, by limiting his opponent to just one point with a 52 break to boot, as the deficit was reduced to 2-1 in favour of the Whitehaven side.
This however proved to be a false hope for the Vets outfit as with some brilliant potting Andy Moore sealed the match win with a victory in frame four.
Looking to nick a point in the final frame of the match Mark Tunstall continued to impress as the season unfolds with another fine victory to limit the damage for the Division One side in what turned out to be a memorable night for the Rack Shack.
The Rack Shack move into second in Division Two on 16 points with Vets Club remaining third in Division One on 24 points.
As league leaders Workington Golf Club A were without a fixture this week second placed Workington Conservative Club closed the gap at the top of Division One with a 3-2 victory against Division Two’s Maryport Social.
An Alan Moore victory in the first coupled with a Dave Holland win in the second put the Cons 2-0 up.
However an exceptional performance from Greg Todd in frame three ensured the Maryport side were still in it at 2-1.
The next saw a typically gritty display from Ryan Barker lead to a 3-1 Cons advantage but in claiming the last Andrew Scott put an important Social point on the board.
Cons remain second in Division One on 26 points and Maryport slip to fourth in Division Two on 15 points.
Workington’s Station Road Club returned to winning ways in the league with a 4-1 away win over fellow Division Two side, Workington Golf Club B.
Station Road super sub Andrew Henderson won a close first frame and with team mate Chris Hunter proving victorious in the second a 2-0 match score-line looked promising for them.
The third saw a low-scoring encounter again go in favour of the Station Road outfit as Mark Robertson made it 3-0, but the performance of the match had to go to the Golf Club B’s Paul Brown with a top-notch performance against a first-class opponent to pull one back for 3-1.
The last frame of the fixture however returned to business as usual with Darren Lawson winning with ease to see his side end with a healthy four point haul.
Station Road move up to second in Division Two on 17 points with the Golf Club B still propping up the table on 8 points.
Finally, Workington’s United Club continued in their winning ways with a 3-2 away victory against Division Two leaders Flimby Social Club.
United’s Dave Chapman played solidly to take the first for the Division One side but Sal Cakmak made sure Flimby stayed in touch with an equally sturdy performance in frame two for 1-1.
Peter O’Hagan made short work of the third for a 2-1 United Club lead and with a fortunate end to frame four Mark Suitor put the Division One outfit in an unassailable position at 3-1 up.
The last frame of the match delivered some brilliant potting as Flimby’s Kevin Kirkham ignored the previous frames’ disappointment to record a victory and end the match 3-2.
Flimby top Division Two on 24 points and the United Club stay fourth in Division One on 23 points.
