Donations are continuing to roll in for Gary McKee’s 365 Challenge.
After news that he had reached his £1 million target earlier yesterday, December 31, – his Justgiving online page has just hit £1,062,987 in donations.
Gary, of Cleator Moor, completed his 365th marathon of the year today – and was cheered on by hundreds of people along the route and thousands all over the country.
His superhuman effort to raise cash for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support – which began on January 1 – has catapulted him into the record books and the hearts of the nation.
He completed 26.2 miles every day – meaning he has run 9,526-and-a-half miles for a total of 1,140 hours. He has been featured in the national media and gone through dozens of pairs of trainers.
This morning, donations stood at around £500,000 yesterday morning then shot up to £800,000-plus in the afternoon.
Gary said: “The reason I’m doing this is that I’m lucky enough to be able to take on a physical challenge of this scale, and every day I think about all the people going through cancer treatment who face their own physical and emotional challenges.
“If I can support people going through cancer and other life-limiting illnesses while inspiring people to get out there and fundraise themselves, then every marathon I do every day is worth the effort.
“The support on the challenge has been fantastic, from our cake bakers, fellow runners, and fundraising team everyone is coming together for the cause.”
