Carlisle’s Borderway auction mart is opening its cafe as a warm hub.
The mart, run by H&H Group, is opening its cafe every Tuesday and Thursday this month between 10am and 2pm so people can gather for free.
It is also offering soup and a roll for £1.
Richard Rankin, chief executive of the H&H Group said, “Our Borderway Mart is already considered a vital social hub for the rural community, but we realised we could do more, so we decided to open the space for everyone in our community who needs a little respite from the cold.
“We will be providing a warm space and the option of warm soup, but for some it will be so much more than that. Sometimes a warm smile and some human contact is what is most needed, and we are looking forward to delivering this to anyone crossing the threshold!”
Warm hubs have been set up across the country to offer a safe, accessible, warm environment during the day for those struggling with energy costs.
