Workington Reds boss Danny Grainger is still pursuing a new face to boost his promotion-chasing NPL West squad.
Grainger has been involved in talks this week after suggesting that he might be able to complete a signing before Saturday’s trip to Trafford.
“We haven’t been able to finalise anything but it’s not dead in the water and we will continue to work at it,” said the Reds manager.
Grainger also said that close season signing Ben Hughes, who hasn’t played a League game yet because of a persistent back injury, is making good progress.
“It will be like having a new signing when Ben is ready to play and he’s coming along well, so hopefully it won’t be too long before we see him.
“Ceiran Casson is also getting nearer to a return. He’s had a troublesome ankle injury but might only be a couple of weeks away now,” he said.
Workington travel to Trafford in third place, three points behind Leek from the same number of games and 11 behind Macclesfield with a game in hand.
“Trafford have a good squad of players and a good manager but they are in 13th place and on a bit of a slump. I know they will be working hard to turn that round and tomorrow will be a tough game for us.
“It was disappointing to be denied a win last week with that late equaliser and we will be looking to make amends at Trafford,” said Grainger.
