Arriva will stop running the 685 bus service from Carlisle to Newcastle.
From Sunday, Stagecoach will take over its operation.
To help with the changes the Tyne & Wear Mega Rider boundary will now extend to Hexham, meaning that regular travellers can take advantage of new lower day and weekly fares for travel to and from Newcastle.
Stagecoach said there would be few changes to the service and it will still offer the hourly service and the route will remain the same, although there would be some alterations in the morning and evening.
Rob Jones, managing director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone onto our new journeys and we plan on working to keep all the communities who rely on the service connected.
“This change comes as we are still offering our £2 single tickets which means people who live along the A69 route will now be able to take advantage of this offer and travel as far as either Carlisle or Newcastle for this bargain price.”
Day and week tickets are available on the bus buy paying contactless or with cash.
Arriva tickets will still be accepted until Sunday, January 29, but will not be able to be used after this date.
