Workington Comets new track last year

The revived Workington Comets, who launch in April, have been handed one of the major meetings for the early part of the season.

Workington will stage the 2023 British Under-21 Qualifier, with the meeting set for Sunday May 28.

The new Northside venue takes on the event which has been run at Mildenhall over the past two seasons, and British Youth boss Neil Vatcher has thanked the Comets’ management team of Andrew Bain and James Denham for their assistance.

Vatcher said: “It has not been easy juggling the fixtures to make sure that the qualifier has a full line-up without riders missing their club fixtures, so I am really pleased that this has been arranged on a day when there are no other fixtures.

“With the way Workington have built their team for the 2023 season full of young British riders, they are sure to have a large representation on the day, which will be great for the home support.”

Promoter Bain said: “We are really honoured to be entrusted with such a high profile meeting in our first season back and it promises to be a great day’s speedway.”

The full line-up and the seeded riders for the British Under-21 Final will be announced at the Young Lions presentation event taking place at the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club on Saturday February 11.
