Workington Reds boss Danny Grainger will be making a late team selection ahead of tonight’s home game with Ramsbottom United (ko 7.45pm).
Top scorer Dav Symington suffered an upper body strain and had to be substituted in the 1-0 win at Leek Town on Saturday.
Grainger will want Symington’s power available against struggling opposition so will wait as long as p[possible to assess his fitness.
However he will also be mindful that Reds follow up at home again on Saturday when they entertain Bootle – and in both games the Cumbrians are looking to complete League doubles.
They won 3-0 at Ramsbottom and 1-0 at Bootle and a repeat of both results would be welcomed having done so well to beat one of their main promotion rivals on Saturday.
As well as Symington, Grainger will also be checking on whether Ceiran Casson suffered any reaction from his brief substitute’s appearance at Leek. Coming on for the last eight minutes of normal time after a lengthy injury absence he replaced Bobby Carroll who had taken a knock.
Ramsbottom are in deep relegation trouble, bottom of the League having conceded more goals (57) than anyone else and on Saturday crashed 4-1 at home to Glossop North End.
That’s in sharp contrast to Workington’s current record, but Grainger will be emphasising the need to avoid any complacency tonight.
Reds have won 32 out of the last 36 points played for; they are unbeaten in 13 and only one defeat in 20 games (at Macclesfield) while no opposition team has scored more than one goal at Borough Park. Against such lowly opposition it screams out – don’t take your foot off the gas!
There’s a full programme of matches scheduled tonight so this is not the Reds’ catch-up game on leaders Macclesfield who are at home to Witton Albion. Leek Town are at Kidsgrove Athletic.
