A man has appeared in court accused of trying to intentionally cause serious injury to two police officers in an alleged bite attack near Alston.
Mustafa Osman, 27, of no fixed address, faces charges which arise out of incidents at the Lovelady Shield Hotel close to the town on November 10 last year.
Osman is accused of attempting to wound two police constables — one male and one female — with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm.
He also stands accused of affray and, in addition, damaging two panes of glass, a handrail and a lamp at the Lovelady Shield Hotel.
When Osman appeared at Carlisle Crown Court, pleas of not guilty were entered on his behalf to each of the charges.
A trial in front of a jury was fixed by the judge, Recorder Mark Ainsworth. This is due to start at the crown court on March 6 and, it is estimated, will last three to four days.
In the meantime Osman has been remanded in custody.
