A West Cumbrian hotel which closed suddenly last month will reopen soon under new management, it has been revealed.

Hunday Manor Country House Hotel, at Winscales, near Workington, has begun to recruit for staff and said the hotel – and Frederick’s Lounge Bar in Cockermouth – would be opening soon.

Shockwaves rippled through the community when the Hunday Manor at Winscales and Frederick’s Lounge Bar in Cockermouth closed unexpectedly last month.

Dozens of events – including weddings – had been booked at the Hunday Manor, and people took to social media to say they had not been informed of the closure.

The venues were run by Western Lake District Hotels Ltd.

An official notice was published in the London Gazette that said unless cause is shown to the contrary, the company will be struck off Companies House and dissolved ‘not less than two months from January 24.

The Hunday Manor Hotel closed on January 9 for three days, but it is believed it then closed down for good on Saturday January 14, with bosses telling staff it was not reopening. It is understood they were all told there were no longer jobs for them.

Frederick’s on Station Street was also closed. Websites for Western Lake District Hotels, Hunday Manor and Frederick’s all said ‘account suspended’.

Directors of the firm are listed on Companies House as John Miller and Pascal Delorme.

Hunday Manor and Frederick’s were at one time owned by the Wilson family, based in Cockermouth. Joseph Wilson was appointed as a director of Western Lake District Hotels in April 2017, but resigned in May last year.

However, the reopening notice, on social media, has been posted by someone with the surname Wilson.
