Six years after his death, popular rugby league player and coach Jackie Davidson was remembered fondly again with a special memorial game.
Two of his old clubs – Hensingham and Egremont – have met annually since his death in 2017 and there was a big crowd to witness this year’s contest.
Hensingham staged the game on a very wet and increasingly muddy pitch in front of a big crowd who came to remember Jackie, and his contribution to Cumbrian rugby league.
For as well as figuring prominently in the amateur game he also coached both Workington Town and Whitehaven, as well as Cumbria.

The first half was a tough battle as the young Hensingham team repelled the visitors, but on the half hour the Rangers notched up the first try and went on to win 22-6.

Sam Appleby went over for the opening Egremont try and scored a second later in the game. Toby Corrie, Tom Horner and Mitch Edwards also touched down for the visitors.

In the closing minutes Hensingham had the upper hand. and Scott Egan powered through to grab a try back for the hosts.
At the end a very muddy Egremont captain Kieran Glenn was presented with the trophy by Jackie’s wife Joyce.
