Thornhill woman takes on month-long gaming marathon in memory of dad

A Thornhill woman is staging a month-long online gaming marathon in memory of her dad who died from cancer – to try and raise £3,000 for the charity that helped him.

Emily Beech is hosting a fundraiser for Macmillan where she will be streaming a range of popular survival games every weekend throughout March, starting with Subsistence.

Queenbee, as she’s known online, will be joined by players from around the world, with fellow gamers logging in from Canada, Europe and the USA.

Her dad, Broderick, was diagnosed with cancer in December 2016 and passed away 11 months later after it progressed.

Emily, who works in the affordability department at United Utilities, said: “I’m doing this fundraiser for my amazing dad and the incredible support we received from Macmillan.

“The care they gave him, and the support we received as a family, was fantastic and I want to try and give something back, so they can help people with cancer live as fully as they can.”

The 42-year-old has previously held two 24-hour gaming events for Macmillan, which raised £2,700 in total. Both events almost doubled their initial £500 and £1,000 targets and also included a £200 donation from United Utilities.

But her third fundraiser is the biggest yet, with a variety of games being played and also given away, so there promises to be something for everyone.

Emily added: “The Macmillan March Gaming Fundraiser, like its name will run for a full month, with multiple live streams each week, including a variety of games. There will be more giveaways than ever and there will be lots of laughs, banter and fun.

“I’m really excited about this latest fundraiser. People are very supportive, as so many are affected by cancer in one way or another, and I really hope we can smash the £3,000 target, so Macmillan can help other families when they need it most.”

All the games, which contain adult content, will be streamed on YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/c/QueenbeePlayer
