A 19-year-old has appeared in court accused of an alleged stabbing at a Carlisle flat party over the weekend.

Jordan Burgess, faces two charges arising out of an incident which is said to have happened at an address at Silloth Street, off Wigton Road in the city, on Saturday, March 4.

One charge alleges the unlawful and malicious wounding of a male with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

A second connected charge alleges that Burgess unlawfully and intentionally threatened the same male with an offensive weapon, namely scissors. He is said to have done so in such a way that there was an immediate risk of serious harm to that person.

When he appeared in the dock at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning, Burgess entered no pleas to either of the allegations he faces.

The court heard it was Burgess’ case that he was not the person responsible for an alleged stabbing of a male who initially thought he had been punched at a gathering inside the address.

Magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court. Burgess, of no fixed address, is due to appear there in front of a judge for a plea hearing on April 3.

In the meantime he was remanded in custody with his solicitor, Mark Shepherd, confirming that no bail application was being made at this stage.
