Two men charged with burglary after a couple’s Carlisle home was broken into as they slept earlier this week have appeared in court.
City magistrates heard today that possessions worth around £2,600 were stolen from a flat on Brisco Road, Upperby, during the early hours of yesterday, March 6, when the occupants were woken up by the thieves.
The haul is said to have comprised hair straighteners, a VR headset, PlayStation, controllers, a Nintendo Switch, console games, Google Pixel phone, lipstick and Wetherspoon gift cards.
There is said to have been a verbal confrontation in a bedroom.
Following the incident, 30-year-old Marc Proudfoot and Steven Queen, 40, have both been charged with burglary.
Queen is further charged with possessing diazepam.
They appeared in the dock at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court separately to face the respective charges. No pleas were entered by either man to the allegations they face.
Proudfoot — wearing a grey jumper — spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and gave his address as Stanhope Road, Carlisle.
Queen, wearing an olive green top, also spoke from the dock to confirm his details, which included an address c/o Oaklands Drive, Upperby, Carlisle.
No application was made for bail on Proudfoot’s behalf. Magistrates refused an application for bail made on Queen’s behalf by his solicitor.
The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court. Both men are due to appear there in front of a judge for a plea hearing on April 3.
In the meantime, both defendants have been remanded in custody.
