Lake District wellness business offers free retreats in bid to tackle cost of living

A Lake District wellness business is seeking to tackle the cost of living crisis by offering free retreats and adventure packages.

Full Circle Experiences retreat centre in Underhill near Millom has pledged to provide one free place for every experience they run this year in a bid to provide wellness options for everyone.

Katherine Beaumont, therapist and director said: “Cumbria has become a mecca for wellness, especially since lockdown. As a country, we are experiencing mental health crisis, an NHS squeeze and living costs beyond people’s reach.

“Sometimes, access to good mental health can simply be about providing some essential tools that people can take away to practice. All our experiences are based in nature and show people how to use nature as a tool to feel better.”

Courses and workshops offered by Full Circle include foraging and feasting courses, meditating with wild horses, horseback riding, wild swimming, cold water therapy and breathwork and more.

All of the experiences have accessibility options and wheelchair users and guide dogs are welcomed – and carers and support workers are able to attend for free.

Retreats and residential stays are also available for everyone from families to individuals looking to attend alone.

Katherine added: “Full Circle is a community interest company. I set it up so that everyone can have access to the gentle mental health support that nature can offer. This is something I greatly value and something that I know I would have benefitted from as a younger person.

“We transparently run corporate team events and retreats through the year that pay well, so that we can afford to host free summer holiday activities for pupil premium children, carers and vulnerable women.

“We aim to do more of this and next year we will be looking to offer free retreats at our new venue near the Western Lakes.”
