Cumbria well represented in England Community Lions’ train-on squads

Cumbria are well represented in the England Community Lions’ extended train-on squads at Under-16s and Under-18s age groups.

They have just been announced as they prepare for a busy few months of internationals for both age groups.

The Under-16s have named 39 players, a number that will later be trimmed following a trial on May 13 and will take on Wales in Wales on 3rd June before home internationals against Scotland (June 18), Ireland (September 2) and Wales (September 16).

The players not selected from that trial game will still have a representative opportunity when a Lions Regional Selection take on a French Regional side in England during July.

Across the country 23 clubs are represented through the Under-16s programme with nine of them from Cumbria.

Hensingham supply four with Jaylen Conway, Hewnley Donnan, Theo Crowe and Arben Pervizaj; Wath Brow Hornets have three representatives in Matthew Creasey, Alfix Cox and Layton Dockray and they are joined by Lowca’s Xenden Callander and Egremont’s Lloyd Stainton.

Thirty-six players from 24 clubs have made the Under-18 train on squad  with seven of them from Cumbria.

Kells supply three – Sam Murtagh, Dylan Grears and Harley Nelson; there’s two from Hensingham in Miller Dalton and Fletcher Holgate while Daniel Knott (Dalton) and Dewvon Sharp (Wath Brow) complewtew the Cumbrian contingent.

Six of the squad, including Holgate played for the Lions Under-16s last season.

The Under-18s programme mirrors that of the Under-16s with the squad set to be trimmed following a trial on May 13 and will then take on Wales in Wales on June 3 before home internationals against Scotland (June 18), Ireland (September 2) and Wales (September 16).
