Penrith earned their place in the Fred Conway County Cup final with a 2-0 win at Whitehaven.
It was a hard-fought semi-final played in poor weather conditions and the Northern League clinched the victory with two second-half goals.
It had been a fairly even first-half which failed to produce a breakthrough goal, although there were a couple of opportunities for Whitehaven but Aaran Taylor produced two decent saves.
In such a tight game the first goal was always going to be important and it came on the hour.
A well worked move put Penrith into a good attacking position and Matt Foster finished well.
Penroith, who fielded a number of youngsters, probably just shaded the second-half but they couldn’t add to their tally until five minutes when time when Luke Hunter slotted home the second goal.
Penrith are now awaiting the result of Tuesday’s other semi-final in which Workington entertain the holders Carlisle City at Borough Park.
The final will be staged at Brunton Park, Carlisle on a date to be confirmed.
