A sack containing five dead turkeys have been dumped in a West Cumbrian river.
Allerdale police were called out to the Oughterside area, near Gilcrux, yesterday, April 3, after a passer-by spotted a large bag in the river.
They thought it contained birds of prey. Officers attended and due to the bag’s location and the depth of the water, called on the expertise of Maryport Rescue to help recover it.
It was discovered that five very large turkeys had been killed and disposed of.
Allerdale police said: “Due to bird flu this poses a risk to other wildlife and public health. Defra has been informed and will be collecting within due course.”
