A social landlord has been awarded £3.5 million to help its homes become more energy efficient in the South Lakes.
The match funding from the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund was awarded to a consortium led by Westmorland and Furness Council and including South Lakes Homes.
It will allow the social landlord to retrofit and decarbonise 905 of its homes – which it said would cut carbon emissions and help reduce energy use and bills.
Energy-efficiency measures will be installed in almost a third of its homes, including external wall insulation, cavity insulation and double glazing, and some homes will also be fitted with solar panels and air source heat pumps.
Part of its business strategy is to see all of its homes achieving EPC C rating by 2025, five years earlier than a Government imposed target.
Cath Purdy, chief executive of South Lakes Homes, said: “It’s fantastic news we have secured £3.5m of funding in the second wave which will match-fund the significant investment we are making.
“Decarbonising social homes has a fundamental role to play to meeting ours and the country’s net zero target. This funding will make a real difference to our customers who live in the lowest energy performing homes and help us to provide warm, healthy homes in an environmentally sustainable way.”
Eligible residents will be contacted individually in the coming weeks by our team with details of the scheme and planned investment in their homes, the social landlord said.
