A man has admitted supplying cannabis after 11kg of the drug was found inside a vehicle stopped by police on the M6 in north Cumbria.
Saimir Haxhiaj, 32, faced two charges when he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court earlier today.
Haxhiaj pleaded guilty to being concerned in supplying a quantity of class B controlled substance cannabis to another.
His offence came to light after police stopped a vehicle driven by the defendant on the M6 southbound in the area of Southwaite services, near Carlisle, on March 8.
The court heard that 11kg was seized and had an estimated value of £5,500 due to it comprising cannabis waste products of buds and leaves.
Haxhiaj denied a second charge alleging the possession of criminal property — namely cash in the sum of £24,390.
Prosecutor Gerard Rogerson told Judge Nicholas Barker the pleas were an acceptable resolution of Haxhiaj’s case although the case would proceed to sentence on the basis that money was also found during the police stop.
The court was told that Haxhiaj had been travelling from Glasgow to London when his journey was halted.
The case was adjourned by the judge who said Haxhiaj, of Larch Close, Wandsworth, London, would be sentenced at the crown court on a date to be fixed.
In the meantime, he has been remanded in custody.
