Plans for a new TK Maxx in Workington have taken a step forward.
The fashion and homeware retailer has lodged planning applications with Cumberland Council for advertising signs to transform the exterior of the building – which was formerly home to the town’s Debenhams.
The firm will take over 22,500 sq ft of the building. It is not known what will happen with the rest of the store.
If plans are approved, the outside of the building will feature a total of six new branded signs – with the sign above the main entrance being internally lit up alongside red illuminated keyline on the shop windows.

A digital screen board would also be built behind one of the shop’s main windows for moving advertisements.
Three of the signs will be double sided Hong-Kong style banners that project outwards from the store.
On the side of the building a large 3D logotype sign will be installed. The letters will be backlit with a red ‘halo’ in line with the firm’s branding.
There will also be a flat screen-printed sign erected by the doors where goods will be loaded into the back of the building.
The new store will be TK Maxx’s third branch in Cumbria. It already has stores in Carlisle and Kendal.
