Kells face a stern test at home tomorrow when they entertain the National Conference Premier Division leaders Hunslet Amateurs.
The merged club – Hunslet Club Parkside and Hunslet Warriors – came together last November and they have roared to the top of the Premier Division table with five styraight wins.
They will visit west Cumbria on the back of a convincing 66-0 home win over Wigan St Patrick’s last week while Kells were giving their poorest display so far with a 40-12 defeat at Rochdale Mayfield.
Kells coach Peter Smith will be looking for a big improvement as he expects the toughest contest of the season so far.
Meanwhile Wath Brow are on the road again after their excellent 15-2 win at Siddal last Saturday.
They will be looking to follow-up as hosts Leigh Miners Rangers are next to bottom and only have one win so far from five games.
But hold on a minute – that win came last week, 20-18 at high-flying West Hull who hadn’t lost before then. As West Hull have already beaten Wath Brow that victory for Leigh Miners will have provided food for thought for Hornets coach Ian Rooney.
In Division One Egremont Rangers need a win to boost morale and pull them away from an early relegation battle.
But it doesn’t get much easier after losing 34-14 at home to leaders West Bowling last week as tomorrow they host second-in-the-table Heworth.
In Division Two Barrow Island are back at home for the visit of second-in-the table Dewsbury Moor Maroons having lost the chance to go joint top last week when they lost 36-20 at Myton Warriors.
The Maroons had a tight 18-16 home win against Woolston Rovers which enabled them to leapfrog their opponents into second.
Three of the four Cumbrian clubs in Division Three have home games tomorrow. The one exception are second-in-the-table Millom who travel to Leigh East.
The Woollybacks enjoyed a good trip to Drighlington, coming back with a 36-18 win last week while Leigh East were surprisingly beaten 30-24 at bottom club Eastmoor Dragons.
Seaton’s 80-6 defeat at Beverley, combined with Eastmoor’s win, dropped the Cumbrians to bottom and they will be doubly keen to make progress up the table with a home game against Eastmoor tomorrow when they will expect to pick-up a second win.
Ellenborough Rangers had enjoyed a successful start to life in the National Conference, sitting top of the League after four games but last week suffered a late collapse at Oldham St. Annes to drop to fourth.
Still smarting from that 44-18 reversal Elbra are back at home tomorrow with a visit from Seaton’s conquerors Beverley.
Hensingham, with just one win so far, have home advantage over Drighlington, who have won twice so far.
