Plans to resurface a section of a Lake District car park is due to be scrutinised at a meeting.
The Lowther Estate Trust wants to have tarmacadam put down on 500sq m of White Moss Car Park, off the A591 between Rydal and Grasmere.
The plan is due to be considered by the Lake District National Park Authority’s development control committee on May 4.
In a report produced ahead of the meeting, planner Kelsey Blain said the crushed stone surface of the car park was often severely potholed and in need of regular repair and that tarmacadam would be more resilient.
“There is an essential need for this development in this location as it relates to improvements to an existing and long-established car park,” the report said.
“The proposed resurfacing material would be similar in appearance to the existing.”
The application is recommended for approval.
The application is to be brought before the development control committee due to objections from Lakes Parish Council.
In a representation published online, the parish council said the applicant had not demonstrated the proposal was reasonably necessary and the surface would not be sympathetic to the local character and landscape.
