The first section of a new £1.45 million Lake District trail has reopened after issues with landowners have been resolved.
The Lake District National Park Authority announced the opening of the West Windermere Way on April 1 – and it then had to close temporarily.
However, the authority said last night that the route has now reopened again.
The authority said it had to formalise access to the land the path used and that had now been resolved.
The one-mile route from the Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge goes to the Lakeside Ferry Terminal.
Lake District bosses said on April 1 that they were thrilled it had opened and it was the first stage of an ambitious plan for the full route, which once completed, will reach the YMCA with the aim of linking to the existing Windermere West Shore Way that goes to Wray Castle.
A Lake District National Park spokesman said: “We’re delighted that the first section of the West Windermere Way has reopened after a short two-day closure. This was due to an administrative issue with partner landowners to formalise access, which has now been resolved.
“We thank the community and businesses for their understanding during this closure and look forward to welcoming people back to enjoy the first section of the West Windermere Way soon. Look out for the second section opening later this summer.”
