Barrow have made experienced midfielder David Worrall their first close season signing.
The 32-year-old has joined on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract at Sky Bet League One side Port Vale, subject to EFL approval.
Manchester-born Worrall, who started his career in 2005 in the Bury youth system, has gone on to play nearly 500 EFL games.
After just the one appearance for Bury, Worrall was snapped up by Premier League side West Bromwich Albion in 2007 for £50,000 and he spent three years at the Hawthorns without making a senior appearance.
While with the Baggies he made League debuts while on loan at Accrington, Shrewsbury and Bury.
He eventually returned to Bury on a permanent deal and went on to play over 160 games for the Gigg Lane side.
After a brief spell at Rotherham, a another loan at Oldham, and in 2015 joined Southend where he helped them win promotion through the play-offs.
A short 33-game spell at Millwall saw him help them to promotion in 2016-17 and he then joined Port Vale where he clocked up 216 appearances in six years.
Barrow manager Pete Wild said: “The signing of David is a real statement of intent from us. He comes with a wealth of experience and a fantastic record of assists.
“We wanted to add good experience to the group and bring in players who know what it takes to get to the next level.
I hope fans and potential targets look at this signing and recognise that this is a top signing for us.”
Worrall was ever present for Port Vale last season, making 39 appearances and chipping in with a goal and six assists.
He said: “I can’t wait to get started, I am really looking forward to meeting the lads and seeing what we can achieve as a football club.
“When I spoke to the manager and heard his plans it really motivated me and it’s a journey I want to be a part of.”
