Workington celebrate winning promotion in front of 2,500 at Borough Park (Ben Challis)

Workington Reds are going flat out to provide extra cash for manager Danny Grainger to consolidate and push on in the NPL Premier Division.

The board is to reveal details of its new squad building initiative, the Budget Booster, which will run throughout June.

Now the Reds Independent Supporters Club have chipped in with the launch of a new lottery scheme this Saturday.

The RISC and the official Supporters Club handed over £5,000 each to the parent club at the recent presentation night. The Supporters Club is paying out a £2,000 rollover prize this week for their monthly draw which will be a record.

Since COVID, over £20,000 has been handed over by the Supporters groups who have used various means of making money – a weekly scorecast, which made £2,000 this last season; a special auction of memorabilia when football was shut down by COVID, a pontoon, racing naps, a Grand National sweepstake, a Reds ptrediction League and now the latest one – the Pick 6 Lotto.

The Reds Independent Supporters Club operate with a committee of 11 fans who all vote on different ideas and then run the chosen ones between them.

This particular 11-a-side team is made up of: Liam Irving, Darren Wood, JJ Berwick, Dan McMinn, Mark Lumsden, Sean McMinn, Eugene Henry, Kieran Irving, Carl Stephenson, Graeme Bates and Sean Walsh.

Reds vice chairman Richard Lewthwaite said: “As we saw on presentation night both Supporters groups do great work for us and are really invaluable to the club.

“We appreciate all their efforts to back the Reds and wish every success to their latest venture.”
