Carlisle to host pop-up shop aiming to make proms affordable

Carlisle is set to host a pop-up shop that is aiming to make prom more affordable.

Cumbrian teenagers looking to get kitted out for their prom are being invited to grab a bargain and support Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, who are running the event, at the same time.

The pop-up shop is designed to help young people and their families who are in need – or passionate about sustainable fashion – and allows them to come along and browse for their dream outfit for their big day.

It will take place in the pop-up space close to the Primark entrance of The Lanes, opposite Schuh, between 10am and 4pm.

Prom can be a huge expense so the pop-up will offer the opportunity for people to get high quality, or brand new, attire for the celebration – while raising vital funds for the charity, which cares for patients with life-limiting illnesses across the county.

The shop has been made possible by local communities coming forward with donations of prom dresses, suits and accessories.

All funds raised from this project will go directly towards supporting patients and their families who require the care that the hospice provides 24 hours, seven days a week.

Richard Jackson, the hospice’s Retail Manager, said: “We’d like to thank our local community for really stepping up to the plate once again and donating a range of high-quality dresses, suits and accessories.

“We’re hoping that the shop will give young people the opportunity to get a great looking outfit at an affordable price while supporting the care the hospice gives local patients and their families.

“Our team can’t wait to open the doors of the pop-up shop on Saturday and look forward to welcoming customers old and new.”

Donations to the prom pop-up shop are still being welcomed and can be taken up until Thursday, June 8.

To donate your prom wear you can drop at any of the charity’s shops in Carlisle, at the pop-up unit on Thursday or alternatively you can drop off directly to the hospice on Durdar Road.

Contact Richard Jackson on 01228 817615 for more details.
