Whitehaven and Workington Town are likely to be on alert after Barrow Raiders announced the departure of Jake Carter for the remainder of the season.
The Raiders say that it is solely to give him the opportunity to explore other playing avenues and is by mutual consent.
A Barrow statement said: “Jake wants to be playing consistently as a starting half-back, but his ambition is to return to the Raiders in the near future for the remainder of his career.
“He hopes that if he can secure more regular game-time that he will progress and return a better player.
“The departure is on positive terms and we wish him well for whatever comes next.”
The news of Carter’s departure will almost certainly interest county neighbours Whitehaven and Town.
Carter had previously spent time on loan with Whitehaven while his father Darren played for Town in a successful era under coach Peter Walsh.
