Are Carlisle United about to look over the border again to find a new striker and hope history repeats itself?
According to the Daily Record’s live transfer blog, the Blues are keen on Alex Jakubiak who will be leaving Dundee at the end of the month.
Like Kristian Dennis – who had two years with St Mirren after a varied career around the EFL – Jakubiak had previously spent most of his career in England.
The former Scotland youth international, who is now 26, will officially become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the month.
He has spent the past three years at Dens Park and during that time had a loan spell.
Dennis has turned down the chance of a new deal with Carlisle to sign a two-year deal at Tranmere after scoring 21 goals in all competitions last season for the Blues.
The Brunton Park club need to replace those goals as they prepare to step up to League One and Jakubiak is being linked to a switch to Brunton Park.
Jakubiak fired 10 goals in 30 matches for Dundee last season and rose through the youth ranks at Watford. He went on to make one senior appearance for the Hornets whilst they were in the Premier League.
He was loaned out from Vicarage Road to Braintree Town, Oxford United, Dagenham and Redbridge, Fleetwood Town, Wycombe Wanderers, Falkirk, Bristol Rovers, Gillingham and St Mirren to gain some experience before he was released in 2020.
Westminster-born Jakubiak has played a key role in Dundee’s return to the Scottish Premiership under former Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer but is now heading out the exit door and Carlisle could be the next port of call.
