14-year-old dies after Carlisle river tragedy

One of the boys who got into difficulty in the River Eden in Carlisle last month has died.

Cumbria police released a statement saying that the 14-year-old died in the early hours of yesterday, June 15, while in ‘medical care’.

A group of teenagers got into difficulty in the river on May 26.  

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner, police said.

Lewis Kirkpatrick, 15, was one of the youngsters involved. He was swept away and his body found after an intensive search. An inquest was opened into his death today.
