A Lancaster Bomber flew over the Lake District this weekend and took people’s breath away.
It flew across Windermere twice and was also spotted on the west coast, including Allonby and Maryport yesterday, June 17.
While it was a surprise for some, others said it was a planned visit – and one of our readers, Davy Sinclair, said he attended the Armed Forces Day in Larne, Northern Ireland, yesterday.
He said: “The Lancaster made an amazing appearance. Maybe it was on its way to Larne.”
Of the 7,377 aircraft built, 3,736 were lost during the war – 3,249 in action and 487 in ground accidents. Today 17 remain in complete form. Only two are airworthy.
Lancaster Bombers took part in the Dambusters raids 80 years ago.
