A Lake District hotel is only the second in the UK to have its three restaurants featured in the Michelin Guide.
Gilpin Hotel & Lake House joins the Savoy in the prestigious guide after its Knipe Grill was added to the the Michelin Inspectors’ Favourite New Restaurants for June.
The new restaurant at the Windermere hotel has been praised for its setting and the playful element added to the array of charcoal-fired Cumbrian produce from resident chef Tom ‘Westy’ Westerland.
Source at Gilpin Hotel retained its Michelin Star in March, and pan-Asian restaurant Gilpin Spice was added in 2018.
Westy said: “Having only opened the restaurant in late 2022, it is huge honour for myself and the team at Knipe Grill at Gilpin Lake House to be included in the Michelin Guide. We are so fortunate that the restaurant is situated in the most spectacular of settings.
“We have access to world class produce on our doorstep, ingredients which cannot help but inspire the menu and add to the ambiance of the restaurant. We like to have fun and inject some personality into the menu, so I’m really happy that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”
Owner Zoë Cunliffe added: “We’re so delighted for Westy and the entire team here at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House.
“We’re only part way into our journey here, having hired the new chefs across all three restaurants and only opening Knipe Grill in late 2022, so to join the company of a prestigious hotel like the Savoy with all three restaurants in the Michelin Guide so soon is incredible – as always we’re very proud of our incredible team.”
Each month, Michelin reveals new recommendations based on its inspectors’ reviews which are highlighted and added to its website and mobile app. Eleven new restaurants in total have joined the MICHELIN Guide Great Britain & Ireland selection this June.
The official Bib Gourmand and Michelin Star recommendations are revealed each March.
