Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward after a man was killed in a collision with a HGV on the A66.

Pedestrian Daniel Stephens, 35, died at the scene, near the Brough junction, on Friday July 7 at around 6.10am.

Police are appealing for drivers travelling on the A66 between 5.30am and 6.15am that day who may have witnessed or have dash cam of a pedestrian by a white BMW 3 series.

Officers are also specifically looking to speak with a HGV driver who stopped before the incident and may have spoken with the pedestrian.

Mr Stephen’s family paid tribute to him.

They said: “Danny was full of fun and laughter, making memories with his family and friends that will be cherished forever.

“He lived his life in the fast lane, life was never taken too seriously. He was adored by all who knew him; his contagious laugh, his gorgeous smile and the biggest heart. He would do anything for anyone. Continue to ride the clouds Dan.

“Fly high Danny. You will be forever missed and loved by us all. You will live on through your girls who will be cherished by all. Be with dad, looking down on us all.

“Our lives will never be the same without you. See you on the other side kid! We will miss you for eternity. Love you always and forever.”

Anyone with information relating to this incident can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/reportit, quoting incident number 22 of 7 July 2023 for the attention of Sergeant Young and PC McEwan or call 101.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
