There were 87 hounds competing in the four-trail HTA meeting held at Cold Fell last night.

There was a good slip of 25 senior hounds in the opener which went to Cautious, owned by Stephen Riley and Isla Hetherington.

The win was much to the delight of Isla who has been one of the up and coming junior members over the last couple of years and now has part ownership of Cautious with Stephen.

According to Stephen Isla is the one in charge and sees to the hound, walking it and keeping him right. He describes her as the top trainer.

Cautious beat home Willie and Daphne Mark’s Summer Spirit with Huntsman’s Quartz in third place.

There was a smaller field of 16 pups and it was the in-form Embrace who charged through to take the win, finishing really well for Andrew and Joel Bulman, Laura Steele and Ian Rumney.

The puppy championship leader and Dog Produce winner Rodney Raider for Nicola McMaster and David Todhunter had to settle for second place.

The Open Maiden race produced an exciting finish with six dogs within six yards of each other.

However it was Meadow Maggie who just got up on the line to take the win for HTA chairman Paul Airey, Joanne Henderson and her two daughters, Lottie and Sophie.

A very close battle for second place went to Milo Moon for the Hills and in third place was a much improved Twilight Mist who was winning her third ticket in a week for Gary Woodend.

Last to the slip were the Open Restricted and it was Jenny’s Oracle who won nicely for Glenis and Raymon Farren, beating home the Hetherington’s Splendid Lily with Carol and Stanley Jackson’s Charisma in third place.
