A Cumbria-based charity has appointed a new chief executive.
Brathay, which aims to transform the lives of children and young people, has welcomed Teresa Jennings to the organisation.
She was formerly CEO of n-compass, a health and social care charity based in Preston that, under her eight-year tenure, grew from 70 employees to 170, increasing turnover from £2.1m to £7m and extending its services across the North West and into the Midlands.
She replaces Godfrey Owen at Brathay, who stepped down after 16 years with the charity.
She said: “I am delighted to be joining Brathay. I am motivated by developing organisations that are passionate about making a difference to people’s lives, and that is exactly what has drawn me here.
“For the last 75 years Brathay has been committed to supporting young people in their own self-development journeys through experiential learning, and it is a privilege to have been chosen to steer the organisation into its next exciting chapter.”
Brathay supports children and young people facing challenges in their lives who are referred through schools, third sector partners and statutory agencies. it helps around 7,000 youngsters a year.
It uses immersive residentials at its Lake District centre in Ambleside, alongside life-changing community programmes in West Yorkshire, South Lakeland and West Cumbria to deliver advocacy, wellbeing and resilience.
The charity works with children and young people and is supported through a range of its own not-for-profit enterprises including Challenge events for the public, individual and team leadership development programmes for businesses, and room-only and self-catering staycations for visitors on its lakeside estate.
