Whitehaven Alive has announced the plans for its free-to-attend event village for the upcoming harbour festival.

Taking place between September 8 and September 10 on Whitehaven Harbour, the festival will feature incredible live entertainment, food, drink, cars, theatre, and dance with organisers promising an unforgettable weekend.

Whitehaven Alive 2023 will be the town’s biggest festival in years, with over 70 stalls on the harbour including local producers, artisan brands, food from all over the world and continental traders.

Taylors Fun Fair will be bringing their mega fun fair to the festival including the UK’s only 60-metre-high Booster Maxxx, waltzers, ferris wheel and more.

The festival’s automotive partner Porsche South Lakes will give festival attendees a chance to experience the luxury and performance of Porsche’s iconic models, including the 911, Cayenne, and Panamera. Visitors will also be able to talk to Porsche experts about the latest models and technologies.

Throughout the weekend there will be walkabout street theatre and circus activities, flashmobs, a pet encounter zone, a local music stage, corporate stands with lots of freebies and a range of family-oriented activities.

Oliver Hodgson, founder and executive director, said: “Preparations are well underway for Whitehaven Alive which will take place in a few weeks’ time, the excitement is real.

“It’s going to be an incredible weekend for everyone, we’re expecting more than 20,000 people which will be a brilliant boost to the town. Our harbour event village is free for everyone to attend and is open daily throughout the weekend for what will be an unforgettable festival.

“In addition to the harbour event village, we also have our ticketed evening concerts where the likes of Tinie Tempah, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Jake Bugg, The Vaccines and Boney M will take to the Mitie Main Stage.”

Deanne Shallcross, chief executive of Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, said: “We’re excited by the plans for this year’s event village, with its broad diversity of attractions and activities for all ages and tastes.

“The harbour is a fantastic setting on any day and especially for Whitehaven Alive. We can’t wait to see everyone enjoying free live performances on the local music stage, street theatre, a variety of local traders and community stalls, and quirky cuisines.

“Alongside the amazing line-ups announced for the main stage, the festival’s overall offering is set to reach a wide audience over three days and will help bring people together in a huge community celebration.”
