When will my recycling be collected if I live in West Cumbria?

Recycling services in West Cumbria will restart in a phased approach over the next few weeks.

Refuse collectors in the Allerdale area – who have been on strike since May – agreed to a new pay deal which will see their wages rise.

Since they began industrial action, their employer Allerdale Waste Services, which is owned by Cumberland Council, suspended all recycling.

Normal collections continued throughout the strike.

Now, Cumberland Council said work was underway to reintroduce recycling services over the next few weeks.

Because Monday is a bank holiday, normal refuse collections will take place one day later than normal in the Allerdale area.

Kerbside collections of glass, cans and plastic will restart from Tuesday, August 29.

No collections of garden waste and paper/cardboard will take place week commencing August 28.

Recycling bring sites are available for glass, cans, plastics, paper, and card. Sites continue to be serviced more regularly.

Details of sites can be found at https://www.cumberland.gov.uk/bins-recycling-and-street-cleaning/recycling/recycling-banks

Cumberland Council said it would keep people informed and details would be available soon.

  • In the Copeland and Carlisle areas, there will be no changes and collections will take place on Bank Holiday Monday.
