Kendal Town now have a six point lead at the top of the North West Counties Premier Division.
They beat Burscough 2-0 at Parkside Road to extend their advantage as two of their rivals Bury (2-2) and Wythenshawe (lost 3-0) dropped points.
Chairman Michael O’Neill said: “We are really happy with how the season has gone. I don’t think anyone expected us to be up there leading the table.
“We have maybe slipped under the radar a bit, not having one of the biggest budgets in the League but our manager Jimmy Marshall has been very good in his dealings and the players he has brought in.
“It was also a master-stroke bringing Gavin Clark in as number two because he is really well respected around the club.
“The bonus was the fact that over 500 watched the game which we are delighted about.”
Kendal had dominated the first half but it took them until the fourth minute of time added on to make the breakthrough.
It was James Bailey, the League’s top scorer, who rose well at a corner to head home his tenth goal of the season.
Kendal continued to boss the game in the second half but again found it hard to break through.
The second goal came on 79 minutes from the penalty spot as Rob Wilson made no mistake to give Kendal the cushion of a two goal lead which they held until the end.
